On Books 2012

Last Christmas I got myself “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” unfortunately I haven’t finish reading it. Reasons: I was lazy and I guess reading also requires mood and ambience. Moody and I can’t find the right ambience (---yeah yeah I know!). I also got a hardbound copy 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami it was given to me last Christmas by a good friend  and you know I haven’t started on it because--- I’m lazy! So by mid February I was anxious with my being overly lazy. I was concern with my enthusiasm and I can’t find my, my spot. So I told myself I need a starter, something to jump start my dead battery.

Bam! There I found Hunger Games!  Like freakish and monstrous, I can’t stop reading, page after page. I was obsessed with Katniss Evergreen and Peeta Mellark. I was fancying Cinna and The Capitol people, The Arena and the Cornucopia and all the districts and the Tributes from each district. I got mad, I cried, I laugh and fell in love with each turn of events.

I have to halt myself for simple reasons like I need to sleep, eat and live. I was back. Just like last year when I needed to summon my lost desire for reading. I finished the 3 series in less than 3 weeks, allotting only two days each week for each book because if not I know I’ll be spoiling my mood and be tired after. So when I saw the preview of Hunger Games I can’t control my emotion, teary eyes and shaking voice, overwhelmed. I wonder why  I never check on them whenever I visit the bookstores and I almost missed the series. Well, still lucky because out of boredom and curiosity I search to find the ebook and there!

Now I’m back to reading.

(HAHAHAHA!
This is happening so frequently, I can hear my mother saying “Levz, jack of all traits, master of nothing” hahaha! See? I have disconnected myself from almost everything…I’m back to, I’m back, blah blah blah! Now I’m scolding myself because all I can think of in every post I write here is I’m back! I’m back! Argh!
Enough of that!)

Anyways, I’ll be starting on 1Q84 I think I had enough warm-up, I wanted to read that book when I’m ready so I can give my full concentration. I’ll also be refreshing myself with Tolkien since Hobbit will be showing soon and it’s been like more than half a decade since I’ve read that book. Not to mention that I need to catch up with those books I failed to finish.

By the way, while reading Hunger Games these two songs are constantly on loop. In my opinion, can be a good soundtrack for the book. Just sharing! Try it, Listen and Enjoy!

Have fun!

Polka Wars!

Polka Wars is ready for the BIG war! When I got a notification asking me to listen to Polka War’s new music-- I was amazed, first of all the band came from another country Jakarta, Indonesia, I was thinking how they came to my info. Recently or since late last year,  my interest in music has widen in range as I listen to various music coming from all parts of the world particularly indie music from Southeast Asia. My desire to listen started when I got to hear just one band, then comes my search for more.

As I listen to this band Polka Wars, It reminded me so much of the era here in the Philippines when Rock/Punk/Alternative/New Wave still rules the radio. Deans December, Ethnic Faces, The Jerks and Violent Playground played in my mind, I know a lot of Filipino can relate to that.

There are two songs available at Soundcloud, Coraline and Horse Hooves, and this is what I have to say. The intro of Coraline made me stop and pay attention, the solid voice that comes  with the upbeat melody and the guitar riffs and cuts during the chorus is very dominant. Coraline is a very powerful song, catchy, and the mixture of jazz (as presented by a sax) at the later part of the song is a lethal mixture, it even out the heaviness of the song thus creating balance. On the other hand, Horse Hooves is a very subtle song, mysterious in type. I love listening to music that is mainly composed of emotions or can stir the emotions of the listener, and Horse Hooves promised that kind of melody. Once again the vocal arrangement played a great role in this song. What send me to interest are the lyrics of the song, although as of this time I’m still searching for it and what I got is only the teaser. But the guitar, bass and effects use, plus the timing, and how they collide to a melody is very pleasing in this track. It gives me a feeling of sailing a calm sea. What I like about the two songs is the range and flexibility of their sound. It doesn’t stick to one format.

All in all Polka Wars is a band to watch out for. You guys can visit them at their Facebook Account and Soundcloud or follow them at Twitter (just click on the hot link). The band is still on the process of completing an EP (I hope I get a free copy hahaha, Hello Polka Wars!).  I hope they can create more music and entice more listeners to open their ears. Cheers to Polka Wars and to your Great Music!

OH! And yes! I'm back from a long hiatus--Well, I was busy running around this so called "life" hahaha! I'll be back for more! Have a great life, you guys!

I’m Blank!

Summer Love!
Ok, I know that I failed (almost) to put here my activity for the month of March and April. First off, I’m feeling a little lazy (it’s nothing but natural) and I’ve been writing and deleting all that are suppose to be posted here, moody me. My spirit have been high these past few months but from time to time I feel sluggish (which reminds me how normal my life is), plus I’ve been sleeping a lot and the tons of pictures to be posted are taking much of my time. In Bora we have a total of 2000++ photos and In Gulugod almost 800 Photos. Take that!

Let me tell you that I’ve been to places these past few weeks. As what I have written on my last post, yeah I went to the beach, Boracay Baby! And I’m going to give a full account of what happened there (I went Man Hunting- chinky eyes searching, actually. jk!) and the things that you can do to enjoy your stay. Watch out for my Boracay entry. Then just recently I went mountain climbing to Mt. Gulugod Baboy, Mabini, Batangas, I’ll be describing the place although you can also find some information in some blogs here at WWW but mine will be for kikays (make face) hahahaha! Our next stop will be river trekking in Daraitan and after that, we are still laying the plan whether to take Mt. Daguldol, Piko De Loro, Mt. Sembrano, Mt Batulao or swim the waters of Pagbilao in Borawan and Lukang Beach first. Whatever comes first it doesn’t really matter, just the same we’ll be having fun and making good memories.

I’ll be posting some of my favorite photos for preview today and will be spamming on my next post soon. Ready!?

Shugo Tokumaru the Genius Songwriter/ Multi-Instrumentalist!

My December is filled with Shugo Tokumarus’s music and I can’t get enough of it! What I like about his music is the layering of sounds he went beyond the regular 4-5 piece instruments. Tokumaru’s music is dreamy, artsy, whimsical and ambitious that’s how I would like to describe his music. It’s fresh and adventurous and honestly his music opens my heart to toy instruments like toy piano, xylophone, toy ukulele, steel drums, glockenspiel, accordions, bird whistle and others. He has this freakish ability to control those instruments to make it sound like it was naturally put there like pieces of a puzzle.

My Little Secret!

I am going to let you guys know a little secret. The things that I like doing the most are playing the guitar and listening to music. Yes I’m a frustrated guitarist and I’m not really good a playing it, but I can say I’m trying, neh? You can say maybe I’m a little trying hard but…, oh well, we all have our own little things that we wish we are really good at. Hehehe!

I tried doing this as a 52 weeks project aside from what I’m currently doing now (365 project in FB). I was planning to do this for 52 weeks but my busy schedule won’t allow me to do so, as a result after 3 covers I gave up! This project was supposed to be called my Dorkette Covert Version but it never happen, I quit just like that. But I will never quit playing music maybe I’ll continue this after the 365 which is by the way I’m falling behind, hehehehe!

So here’s my Dorkette Covert Version of “Smile like you mean it” by The Killers!

Video is kinda delay from the audio, I don't know why, but i'll find out soon, this is my first time recording vidi from my lappy so please bear w/ it! LQ Video Dug! (I hope the Killers will not kill me! HAHAHAHA!) Peace!

Another Cover from Smashing Pumpkins and I really like this song, It means a lot to me. It's Called "Sweet Sweet."

Confined within the four corners of my room while the AC's in full blast oh yeah! *Cough* Sneeze*Cough*Sniff*.
Sweet Sweet is one of Corgan’s great creations in Siamese Dream Album('92) it’s a very short 1:38 min song but it gives away a lot of meaning. SP usually ends their gig with this song…
THEY SAY: Everyone’s expecting you to conform to life’s routinely cycle and take it as it is, but when everything else sucks in between! I say: Deviate!
AND THEY ALL WANT YOU TO CHANGE!?

I'm not Perfect but this is what I like to do the most! Cheers to Music and the Great Life!

Bice Rest in Peace and Fly Away….

On my 1st blog this September I’ve mention about cutting my bangs to pay tribute to Bice. This is me now:

I was reluctant at first since I’m not the kind of person who would experiment on myself and I can’t remember the last time I had a full bangs mmmmm…I think I was in elementary.
This is my Mini tribute to Bice. Excerpt from my previous blog:
~~~>I’ve been listening to Bice *pronounce as bee-che* she’s a Japanese singer/songwriter; she composed several anime soundtrack like Mahoraba~ Heartful days, Kirarin Revolution and Kimi wa petto (Japanese Manga Adaptation). Unfortunately she died of heart attack last July 26, 2010. She’s just 38 years of age. She’s a genius songwriter and according to her last blog she was supposed to release a song or collaborate for an upcoming anime. I specially love her songs Cloudy Sky, Like Someone in love, Akubi, Tsusunde Ageru, and An apple a day. Her song Like Someone in Love and Cloudy Sky is constantly playing on my list. I’m thinking of cutting my bangs in full to show my heartfelt tribute to her ^^ Rest in Peace Bice. Kanpai anata no jinsei ni!
Bice (ビーチェ) is a versatile Japanese musician who works as pop-rock singer/songwriter, soundtrack composer, arranger and producer. She had started her career with acoustic-based pop, gradually shifted into more diverse styles of music. She sings both in Japanese and English with a delicate whispering voice. Her birthday is 04.11 and she can play numerous instruments such as guitar, piano, organ, accordion, flute etc…via last.fm
Rest in Peace and Fly Away….Bice ^^
How Bizarre~ September!
Things aren't sailing the way I wanted it to be, but this September I expect my winds to shift into a different direction. And just when I thought that everything is at mess--- tadah! A savior scooped me out of the puddle of mud! And I skip and hop and hum!
Technically I should not be greeting everyone a Merry Christmas, it’s too early for merry greetings but since I’m in the mood ~~~Merry Christmas ^^
August was a burden on the later part and I was annoyed by some people especially with the one who send me that nasty email…Hahaha! I had written my two cents about that issues but it’s something that I should not talk about when I’m feeling a little gorgeous. But I still wanna put some excerpts of what I have written. Here it goes:
Thing are really getting annoyingly out of hand and I’m on the verge of frying that man! Yeah, I’m pissed off the fact that those kids don’t know what the heck they are talking about made me cringe in anger. I would never and doesn’t have any intention of destroying their relationship, the fact that those tweets are under my accounts and no name was mentioned clearly states that I won’t meddle in their issues and those are mine if anyone would react then I shall say you are guilty as charge. Unfortunately, as he effin claim that he is not lurking in my life ~isn’t true, the fact that he send me those nasty email in conjunction to what I have tweet and accused me of prowling in his life is an effin lie because he wouldn’t react if he was not silently reading my tweets and this blog at the comfort of his own friggin time! Aha! You are reading my blog! Hohoho! Caught you! Sneaky sneaky!
You! on the other hand, would understand when you grow up that these things are too complicated to handle and would hope it won’t happen to you! I’m sure when the right time comes you would thank me for being this straight. Are you ready to handle the consequences of your action? Are you ready to get involve in a difficult situation that would require emotional and legalities not to mention facing the truth that we are in? Are you ready to let everyone including your Fam (if you are that bad serious abt it) know the truth about your relationship without losing their trust, humiliating or hurting them? Those are the questions that you should be asking yourself because no matter how you deny the fact we cannot run away! Yes WE! Hehehe I’m part of it so lets partey like it’s hot!
I for a fact don’t want to get involve with that person in any form of relationship. He put me in a great deal of humiliation and destroyed what I have worked hard to achieve and I would never forgive him on that matter. The fact that he is so selfish, stubborn and inconsiderate of mine and the little boy’s situation is unacceptable and I would never pay the respect that he is claiming to earn. You mister doesn’t deserve any reverence in any form. And I have never loathed anyone in my years of existence and you will always remind me of that feeling, no matter how I resist anger. And I (in God’s time) will commit myself again, but until that right time comes I won’t involve anyone at my mess because I believe in K-A-R-M-A! *Chameleon, they come and go wooh-ooh!*
The end.
**I might scrub this out after 3 days or so, I don’t want to taint my space. I know--- I said it’s just an excerpt but 'twas long believe me when I say that I have cut it to make it short. I think I have written like 2000 words for that issue alone! Hahahaha!
September is giving me a good vibes. IDK, but I smell scents of lilies and pine trees it gives me a good feeling. My mood is perfect and before I knew it I’ll be hearing Christmas carols plus the weather is getting breezy. I’m getting the Christmas jitters. So welcome Ber-months!
Oh and for my playlist, I’ve been listening to Bice *pronounce as bee-che* she’s a Japanese singer/songwriter, she composed several anime soundtrack like Mahoraba~ Heartful days, Kirarin Revolution and Kimi wa petto (Japanese Manga Adaptation). Unfortunately she died of heart attack last July 26, 2010, she’s just 38 years of age. She’s a genius songwriter and according to her last blog she was supposed to release a song or collaborate for an upcoming anime. I specially love her songs Cloudy Sky, Like Someone in love, Akubi, Tsusunde Ageru, and An apple a day. Her song Like Someone in Love and Cloudy Sky is constantly playing on my list. I’m thinking of cutting my bangs in full to show my heartfelt tribute to her ^^ Rest in Peace Bice. Kanpai anata no jinsei ni!
Anyways, here’s a preview of what I did on the first day of September, I’ll be writing about the place and the food on a different account. This was at Chungkiwa my favorite Korean Restaurant in Makati, I’ve been there a couple of times so I think they deserve some commendation ^^jalmugutseumnida! Kamsahamnida!^^
Welcome September! Give me some good clouds ^^v
Pilgrim’s Progress: Kula Shaker
I’m a big listener of Kula Shaker, my College songs when I’m in the middle of Panic are Govinda and Tattva the chanting makes my mind more at ease and both are somehow taken from the Sanskrit. Their melody is like a psychedelic trip and the funky songs like Hush, Hey Dude, smart dog and Grateful when you’re dead (Jerry was there) would surely send me dancing in my room. The songs like Namami Nanda-Nandana, Dr Kitty, Machine Gun, and others where they used a lot of nature sounds like chipping of the bird, cat moaning and other traditional Indian Instruments and remix that will surely bring you to stillness and leave your mind clear. The song “Shower your love” is my love blues, it’s my pleading song hehehe.
Now I ‘m digging their new album Pilgrim’s progress although I’m still trying to dissect the album I’ve notice a lot of changes in their music. The carrier track Peter Pan R.I.P. is more like a melancholic theatrical sound and the use of various instrument such as snare and violin shun them away from their Indian inspired trademark but will still recognized Kula Shaker because of the melodic voice of Crispian Mills not to mention the catchy instrumental tempo, still noticeable. Ophelia is one of my favorite mainly because the lyrics is really good and it sound relaxing but I do get a countrish vibes in that single, for me it sounds more like an old English song with bag pipe and everything. But the lyrical presentation is superb their songs as always are poetic. Another song that I want to put emphasis on is the song “Modern Blues” the song started with some Indian woman chanting and a creepy laugh somewhat like an evil witch. At first I was “WTF! Here we go this is what I’ve been waiting for” and then the Lyrics ~ *Somebody spare this whole twisted philosophy I’m searching for meaning in a world of mediocrity, I can’t move for preachers, I can’t find no teachers. Think I’m gonna stay in bed…wasted my whole life working for fools~~, I got blood on my fingers and stones in my shoes* BINGO! And there I found myself shaking my buns like in the 60’s show wooohoo! Hehehe^^
Kula Shaker has matured in their sound and I like it. Their trademark, drum roll accompanied by Crisp bass slide (there is something about the bass melody, I can’t help but notice. Almost the same in all of their songs) and wah riff all together is still… yeah, so much there. I wonder how long will they stay in my playlist since their old albums are still on queue.
Quotes:
Ophelia~ Doubt the stars are on fire, Doubt Truth to be a liar but never doubt I love you....till the day I die” “You were tired of this shadow life. Of fears that hold us tight I will lie beside the river now...”
Peter Pan RIP~ Peter Pan, Don’t look back. They clipped your wings and chained your back”
Calvary~ We can’t turn back, we’re under attack, outnumbered too I believe. Cut down, surrounded, all bust up and pounded, love send the cavalry.”
Modern Blues~ Somebody spare this whole twisted philosophy I’m searching for meaning in a world of mediocrity, I can’t move for preachers, I can’t find no teachers. Think I’m gonna stay in bed.
Broadcast 2000 Awesomeness Music!
I’ve learned about Broadcast 2000 three years ago when I accidentally fall on their single “Get up and Go” while searching at playlist.com for Broadcast “Tender Buttons” (a space pop indie-rock band in England). I was intrigued with Broadcast 2000's music mainly because it was catchy and the melody is soothing to the ears plus the fact that it sounded more than the regular guitar, keyboard, bass and drums. Broadcast 2000 have incorporated instruments like cello, glockenspiel, banjo, ukulele, violin and percussion in their sound, plus the layering of vocals that added appeal to their music. Joe Steer (Vocalist/Songwriter) described their music as “folk-influenced indie Acoustic”.
Their music is very calming and may drive you frantic at the same time, not too noisy and not too pop, the unique mixture of instruments gives you something that you don’t get everyday. Steer offers promising lyrics that speaks to the soul with very likable melody that can stir your emotions. I like it because they don’t sound redundant you can expect different taste in every cut. Steer’s voice is also a big factor in bringing out the essence in their music.
Broadcast 2000 music was mostly used in various advertisements and commercials in UK I guess because they sound very appealing. While searching I stumbled upon some blog reviews and interviews I found out that Joe Steer has no permanent band members, he’s being joined by various musicians. He mentioned that sometimes he does gig with just 3 of his band members or sometimes all nine of them. He also mentioned that most of his songs are recorded and mixed in his bedroom in London. Nevertheless, I really like all of his song, his brilliant song writing talent and the ability to create an excellent melody is a lethal combination. As far as I’m aware of they just debuted live in US this year but their album Building block was released last 2008.
She said "thanks, I like you too"
In my dreams I can see you grinning wide and foolishly asking me to move over and grab the bubblegum that someone left on the other table.
I: NO, don’t be stupid.
You: LOL can’t you be a little bold and silly sometimes.
I: I’m Bold but I’m not dumb
You: I’ll buy you a drink...
I: sure, make it double!
You: that’s what I like about you!
I: HAHAHA! I like you too ^^
And we grin like two chuckle head lost in our own world.
That reminds me so much of this song…so I’ll sing it for you. And yes she said “Thanks, I like you too.”
"Birds~ KATE NASH”
She was waiting at the station. He was getting off the train. He didn't have a ticket so he had to bum through the barriers again. Well, the ticket inspector saw him rushing through.
He said “girl you don't know how much I missed you but we'd better run 'cause I haven't got the funds to pay this fine.”
She said "fine"
Well so they ran out of the station and jumped onto a bus with two of yesterdays travel cards and two bottles of bud.
And he said "you look well nice"
Well she was wearing a skirt and he thought she looked nice. And yes, she didn't really care about anything else 'Cause she only wanted him to think that she looked nice and he did. But he was looking at her, yeah all funny in the eye.
She said "come on boy tell me what you're thinking now don't be shy."
He said “alright, I'll try”
“All the stars up in the sky and the leaves in the trees. All the broken bits that make you jump up and grassy bits in between. All the matter in the world is how much I like you."
She said "what?"
He said "let me try and explain again.”
"Right, birds can fly so high, and they can shit on your head, till they can almost fly into your eye and make you feel so scared. But when you look at them and you see that they're beautiful. That's how I feel about you”
“Right, birds can fly so high and they can shit on your head, till they can almost fly into your eye and make you feel well scared. But when you look at them and you see that they're beautiful. That's how I feel about you. Yeah, that's how I feel about you."
She said "what?"
He said "you"
She said "what are you talking about?"
He said "you"
"Right, birds can fly so high, and they can shit on your head, till they can almost fly into your eye and make you feel so scared. But when you look at them and you see that they're beautiful. That's how I feel about you”
"Right, birds can fly so high, and they can shit on your head, till they can almost fly into your eye and make you feel so scared. But when you look at them and you see that they're beautiful. That's how I feel about you. Right, that's how I feel about you.”
She said "thanks, I like you too"
He said "cool"
**Note I adjusted the cuts in the lyrics to make it sound like a regular conversation. ^^v
GLAM ROCK: MEMORY REPERTOIRE
Who wouldn’t remember Guns n’ Roses, Poison, Skid Row, Aerosmith, Kiss, Boston, Cheap Trick, Motley Crue, Cinderella, Warrant, Slaughter, White Lion, Danger Danger and Van Halen (oh, forgive me if I failed to mention your favorite Glam Rock Band)
Today I’m feeling a little nostalgic, going back to the Glam Era…Since I started the day listening to Poison’s “Until you suffer some (Fire and Ice)” oh yeah, it feels just right. Nothing beats the powerful heavily reverb drum beat, the catchy hooks and guitar riffs with effin’ shredded guitar solos and high screaming voice. The Glam get up *woot* to those sexy man who wore those tight black demin, spandex or leather jeans, headband or bandana, those who carries spiked bangs bleach blonde long hair, black and white make up and over flowing of silver accessories. A rock and roll lifestyle of partying all night and hell yeah! they can grind, remember Axl’s snake dance? And not to mention those Flying V guitars and understanding the use tremolo bar. Who wouldn’t miss that?
Glam is one of the music I grew up listening to, although I started listening to New Waves and British Rock at the age of 8-10 (I guess?). Glam is one of the music that influenced me to hold and play the guitar. As far as I can remember the basic chords for Glam Rock are G-D-A-C just play along with those 4 chords and I’m sure you’ll be just fine. And yes!, I wouldn’t deny the fact that I was one of those who struggled really hard just to learn how to play GnR’s “Sweet Child of Mine”, and all the effin’ ways to play it, you can play it normally like holding your guitar right in front of you showing off your skillful fingers or you can play it by putting the guitar at your back for a little exhibition and amazement of the audience . *boohoo* unfortunately I failed in doing the back part or both HAHAHA.
Why do I listen to Glam? That’s very simple. I like the lyrics, straight forward yet full of feelings. The song convey the real emotions of the song writer and the melodies are catchy, although a little noisy because of the vocalist boisterous sexy voice. I love the guitar riffs and the solos, it’s not as complicated as most of the rock songs now a days. The riffs are much clearer and easy to follow. By listening to it you'll be able to identify what kind of Guitar Effects used mostly Overdrive, Wah, Delay and Reverb or Chorus unlike today’s Rock music (if I can ever classify one) more digitized and uses a lot of sound mixes. Not saying that I don't like the RnR of this generation, it's just different from the Old School RnR.
I don’t know... but I really like listening to Glam Rock maybe because it offers appealing guitar riffs or maybe because I love listening to the vocalist voice (sexy charisma~Oh Sebastian Bach!^^) or maybe because I’m not your average girl who listened to Milli Vanilli or Vanilla Ice during those era, although I had fun listening to Cypress Hill. I really don't know. Oh hey! by the way, I’m not that old~~ just musically inclined^^ LOL!
RIP Skullcandy/ My Urban Jungle Soundtrack
I use to have a Pink Low Rider Skullcandy (RIP) but unfortunately due to my clumsiness I accidentally dropped it and rolled my swivel office chair on it. I tried reviving it using instant glue or some sort of adhesives but it didn’t help (I curse whoever invented that compound used in that darn plastic ^^), it’s not designed for sticky stuffs and I will surely die if someone will suggest to stitch it using metal wire arrrgh!. I gave up and kept it safe in my drawer after grieving for two weeks.
Now this is my ultimate wish: Monster Beat by Dr Dre, the reason for my drooling.
Unfortunately it’s quite pricey (sigh) a raging P12, 000-15,000 for a headset, it's a no way highway. Anyways, I’m thinking about buying a new skullcandy or a sennheiser or a mix-style headphones or an UrbanEars at least I can afford those
